Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters Review

PlayStation Universe
1 April 2009
  • Summary: Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters for the PS2 is full of merriment. Despite the glitches and flaws, when the gameplay is free from foreign or inappropriate elements, it is highly enjoyable. This game should be played by the faithful, constant, hardcore enthusiasts who were not able to get the game on the PSP.
  • Pros: Arrangement of different weapons and gadgets, Strategic gameplay, Impressive looking storyline
  • Cons: Camera problems, Poor graphics, Cut scenes that don’t intermingle with the game

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Knob gags are funny. The euphemism made with the original PSP version of Ratchet and Clank was even vaguely amusing. When it's ripped, forcefully, from its original home and forced into the alien territory of the home console the title just dies on its arse, becomes pointless, and doesn't even raise a smirk. I hate you, Size Matters, I really do.

Ratchet And Clank - Size Matters

Digital Chumps
15 April 2008
  • Conclusion: Ratchet And Clank Size Matters was a very good and well received PSP game. The port to the PS2 is a disappointing one, as it seems to be about as rote of a port as one could do, with no additional features or visual enhancements. If you are a fan of the series, you've probably already played through Size Matters on your PSP or someone else’s, and if that's the case, you needn't bother with this PS2 version.

  • Summary: A great portable title get tarnished in the transition to the PS2.
  • Pros: Same Ratchet & Clank gameplay; variety of guns; 'lombax' is still fun to say.
  • Cons: Guns feel useless; graphics are sub-par; lack of enemies; not enough upgrades to the weapons; audio problems; hover racing is boring as dirt.

Quality Matters Too, Y'know

  • Excerpt: In terms of pure hardware numbers, the PSP is a monster, quickly approaching an install base that would make most consoles positively green with envy. No, it hasn't been the inexplicable success that the DS has been, but until now, Nintendo never really had any competition in the online space, and the PlayStation Portable is proving to be a remarkably resilient little piece of hardware.
