Excerpt: Seeing the 6 on the end of Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is actually quite scary. I can remember playing the first game in the PES series as if it was yesterday, and the years in-between have simply flown by. Konami's approach with the series has certainly been one of slight tinkering rather than all-out revolution, but changes from game to game have been no less significant.
Conclusion: We couldn't catch Konami in the offside yet again and they fail to make mistakes while tackling the football phenomenon. They might get a yellow card for the unlicensed content and the bad commentary, but I guess they'll live with a warning. All I can say is that the match between PES 6 and FIFA 07 is a draw all the way, because you can't really tell who's worth the title.
Conclusion: THE VERDICT: PES6 perhaps remains a little too close to its roots, but with gameplay as good as this it's no surprise Konami has launched an update for the next-gen market. Last-gen PES fans may be weary of the unchanged formula, but we all know it's a formula that still works beautifully, and that has to be the bottom line.
Conclusion: It's that time of year again for a new version of Pro Evo. A new one every year for the last six years, and yet it still sells by the bucket load. It's a kind of gaming triumph in that the Pro Evo series overcame the FIFA series in sales thanks to its excellent game play and despite its lack of licenses, and Pro Evo is still the game of choice for all my casual gaming friends, especially when it comes to me playing them.
Pros: Football as good as it gets in game form – simple as that
Cons: Not that much different from PES5, Hard work getting into games online
Conclusion: There is online play over Xbox Live, although it often suffers from lag, and a lack of licensing leaves most teams with incorrect names. But while PES6 could certainly do with a bit more tweaking, it's still the definitive football game, especially when played with friends.
