  • Excerpt: 2003 was a great year for Ubisoft. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was just one example of their successes. How does our nameless royal hero stack up against the other giants Ubisoft created? Let’s just say that this game won’t be left in the sands. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is a next part of the Prince of Persia series, the nearly famous series that started in the 16-bit era. The series eventually saw Prince of Persia 3D, which really stunk.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time review (PS2)

HonestGamers
29 April 2005
  • Excerpt: You must see to it that in the epic battle of man versus his surroundings, man conquers, and conquers frequently. You'll regularly accomplish this much, only to be beset by the undead and re-animated warriors set against you.

  • Excerpt: Every now and then, we play a game that feels a little bit different. Exuding confidence and style, they are hard to forget or stop playing. They stand proud above the competition, benchmarks in their own right and examples of what can be achieved. I’m not just talking about good games, I’m talking about ten out of ten games – the best of the best. The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one of these masterpieces and your game collection shouldn’t be without it.

  • Excerpt: Jordan Mechner came up with something good way back when, and when this second 3D update of Prince of Persia was announced, I was scared. Very scared. I had played the PC update that was released a few years back and am only just coming off the anti-depressants. For those of you that don’t know, Prince of Persia was essentially a platform game that looked far too good than it had any right to and played like an absolute dream.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Playstation Illustrated
21 October 2004
  • Excerpt: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time looks good, sounds great and does everything in between just right. Although the game shares its graphical engine (or at least pieces of it) with Splinter Cell , PoP takes a less realistic approach in its graphical style. Character designs, which admittedly get a little repetitive after seeing your 10th sand warrior in a row, look great. Animation is also top notch, especially when the prince begins to break out his acrobatic moves.

  • Excerpt: Unlike past 2D titles though, this one includes the above-mentioned narration. The narration continues throughout the game as the Prince constantly tells his story. If he dies, he calmly states "No, that isn't how it happened." If he solves a puzzle, he continues his story. The player isn't forced to sit through this dialogue while the action stands still. Instead, he can usually continue with the game as it goes on.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Amazing controls, realistic, vibrant and super impressive graphics, ambient sound as well as some thrilling music, combined with innovative ideas and innovative puzzle, time-orientated gameplay. You can unlock both POP 1 and 2! This game is a gem by any measure. UbiSoft has done well with this one and we hope that a sequel is just as rich if one gets made.
