Summary: The graphics are bland and uninteresting. Voice acting isn't terrible, but it's nothing impressive. Likewise, none of the characters are unique enough to make them stand out. Combat is generic "hack n' slash" with little innovation, strafing is too slow to avoid anything, and there's no "block" or "dodge" button. The story itself is not bad, but the problem is that the way it's executed, it feels like this game should be an anime. Music is nothing to boast about.
Good for PS series, if you have patience for pre-character creation gameplay

Excerpt: Part of the elusive Phantasy Star series that has been around since the days of SNES, I played this after enjoying the GC release, Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II, hoping for a similar gaming experience. Firstly, the graphics are as I expected for the console, and for the game. I wouldn't say I was disappointed by them, oh no, they were fab.
Excerpt: One hundred years of peace is destroyed in an instant when deadly invaders called The SEED descend on the Gurhal System. As the Alliance Military Force Fleet crumbles under the SEED's superior might, Ethan Waber begins a heroic journey to save his home planet alongside the elite GUARDIANS." This event change the life of Ethan Waber, a 17 year old Human who lives at the Guardian Colony with his sister Lumia.
Pros: Lots of feature to tweak and experiment with
Excerpt: *My review of Phantasy Star Universe is based on the offline experience because I can't afford to play online.* The fighting system is similar to and will feel familiar to fans of Phantasy Star Online. So it's in real-time, and there's no pausing the game offline. The game sees to the likes of lock-on and strafing, but is still fairly simple, and as satisfying.
Excerpt: Phantasy Star kept entertained over the last xmas period. It was a gift i received and was very surprise to get. You could image i steamed into this on xmas day and was pleasant surprise with its furtristic graphics but limited on the areas to travel to. But loads of little fun things to do. You take the role of a young boy whos father was a protector of the planets (Guardian) almost a bit like a UN peace officer.
