Game Info Wire

  • Excerpt: Even with some hidden bonuses and an alternate ending, “Peter Jackson’s King Kong” is not likely to be considered an enduring classic, but it is a game that is worthwhile in the moment.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: King Kong is a leap ahead for movie tie-ins, and the care used in putting it together is on display throughout. And it's a good thing too. We hear Ubisoft is going to be making a lot more games based on movies, and King Kong gives us hope that they will give the sub-genre a push in the right direction.

  • Conclusion: This is a wonderful game. Hampered by a bit of overuse in some of the core mechanics, yes, but still a fantastic way of delivering an experience that you can only get when a great game designer and attention from the movie's director come together.

  • Conclusion: It also helps that the monsters you'll encounter on Skull Island are unbelievably ferocious. Everything that lives on this island is like a bigger, significantly mutated version of an animal that was highly dangerous and unpleasantly tempered to begin with. Angry dinosaurs, 10-foot-long millipedes, hordes of giant scorpions, and bats that look more like massive gargoyles are just some of the horrific beasts that inhabit this hellacious place, and they don't much care for...
  • Pros: Playing as Kong flat-out rules, First-person action is a satisfying mix of great combat and simple puzzle solving, Highly atmospheric art design, Fantastic voice acting, sound effects, and music, Some truly horrific monsters to fight.
  • Cons: Six hours of gameplay, The whole New York section at the end is very brief, and not all that great, Not an awful lot of challenge, save for some very specific sequences, Not enough parts where you play as Kong.

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie Review

VideoGamer.com

  • Excerpt: In the world of movie-licensed videogames there are usually two types: the shockingly poor cash-in and the mediocre, but playable game that's fun for most age groups. Sure, you get an exception from time to time (although GoldenEye is the only game that comes to mind), but you never expect a game based on a blockbuster movie to be a potential game of the year.

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: The world of Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (whew, that’s quite a mouthful!) is lush and tremendously alive . Grasses sway in the wind, leaves bend and little insects flutter about as you travel across Skull Island. While the world isn’t quite as detailed as the 360 version, which is truly breathtaking, it is still quite beautiful in its own right.

  • Excerpt: Story King Kong is based on the upcoming movie made by Peter Jackson. Jack Driscoll is a scriptwriter for Carl Denham's next film, which is the last chance to win back Carl's reputation. You start off playing as Jack Driscoll. Ann is the female lead for the movie. A couple of sailors, Hayes and Jimmy, come along too. Later you will also get a chance to play as King Kong. You end up on Skull Island to work on the film.

  • Excerpt: You know the drill, especially since we’re talking the classic amongst classic monster movies, the one and only King Kong. Based on the classic movie (which spawned a remake and lord knows how many tie ins and spin offs including an animated series or two starring everyone’s favorite super sized primate), the movie takes place in the same time and basically is the same movie from what I‘ve seen (with prettier SFX and some changes).
