Excerpt: Golf is genuinely dull and if we found ourselves in an unfortunate situation, which forced us to watch this dismal sport, we’d rather send a club crashing down on the TV then succumb to viewing it. Luckily in the gaming industry things are that little bit different, titles like the Everybody’s Golf series on the PlayStation have added enough personality to dispel the “boring” stigma that has long been attached to the sport.
Excerpt: I'm going to come clean (there's an Outlaw type joke in there somewhere). Before I played it, I didn't much get or like the idea of this game. I could see why beach volleyball got the Outlaw treatment. Given that one of its major draws is the fact that athletic women wear very little clothing to do it, it's the kind of sport that lays itself open to exploitation (letters of complaint to the usual address).
Summary: Outlaw Golf 2 is a decent golf game and there are some humorous parts but if you're looking for a really good golf game as apposed to a funny golf game then there are much better options in particular PGA and Links. As it is however it provides some good fun golfing which isn't so far to the simulation of the game that it keeps up the fun, particularly when playing atypical golf game types that Hypnotix have made up.
Excerpt: As long as there are consoles to play them on, developers will bring us games based on the noble and sedate sport of golf. In fact, barring the earliest of systems, I don’t think I can recall a system that hasn’t played host to a golf game – hell, even the 3DO had a couple. Outlaw Golf 2 is – rather unsurprisingly – the sequel to 2003’s multi-format Outlaw Golf and comes from the same stable as the mediocre Outlaw Volleyball .
Excerpt: Outlaw Golf 2's best feature is the sheer amount of variety of things to do. If you want to play a round of golf, you can play match play, stroke play, best ball, skins, timed golf, pick up sticks (you remove a club from your opponents bag when you win a hole), and many more. There's also a tour mode where you select a golfer and build up their abilities while defeating the computer in various challenges.
Excerpt: Whether or not golf is your thing, there’s no denying the place that golf games have carved themselves in the hearts of gamers worldwide. Ever since PGA tour golf graced the Megadrive all those years ago, one golf game or another has always sat up there on your games shelf, next to that obligatory racing game, fighting game, tennis game and football game, just in case a bunch of your mates pile back to your house after the pub and are in the mood for a bit of thumb...
Conclusion: All in all, Outlaw Golf 2 is a fantastic golf game which is a breath of fresh air against the traditional games like Tiger Woods, Links and others. The game is also a budget release which makes it very easy to recommend for anyone looking to walk the green but is tired of Tiger’s yearly update and wants to try something new without breaking the bank.
