Resident Evil meets Way of the Samurai

Michael Corona "Nemesis Legion", Amazon
7 November 2005
  • Summary: Onimusha: Warlords - Circa 2001 GOOD: - A nicely styled samurai horror/fantasy - An original story, based loosely on Japanese history - Cool samurai-sword combat BAD: - This game is sort of showing it's age, from the Luke-warm voice acting to the controls - Not for those who don't like survival horror games IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE: - A Samurai game that plays like a survival horror - Magic and fantasy are a pretty big part of the story - Some backtracking and "fetch the...

Impressive, but not very deep

Amazon Customer, Amazon
26 December 2001
  • Summary: This game is very highly rated, and I expected more out of it. The graphics are pretty good, and the "cut scenes" are interesting, providing a good story line, but the game play between the cut scenes is all too short. As with a lot of games with a mission, once the mission is completed the first time, a lot of the fun goes out of the game. This game is probably a better game to rent than to buy.

Great Graphics, but it's too easy

Amazon
13 April 2001
  • Summary: Nice game, great graphics, but I finished it in 4 hours. I expect a little more game time for $50. The bosses and nearly all of the enemies are easy to beat. Basically, your character has great blocking skills and can block practically anything that's thrown at him, so you just need to block and wait for the right time to attack. This approach works with all bosses except for the last one, but even he is pretty easy to beat.

Not a bad game... what there is of it.

Thorigann "Thorigann", Amazon

  • Summary: The first big survival horror game for the Playstation 2 is Onimusha Warlords. Set in ancient Japan you take the role of Samonosuke, as he quests to rescue a kidnapped princess. Instead of normal Resident Evil style of blowing away zombies with modern weapons, you are equipped only with melee weapons and a magic gauntlet. The game is incredible to look at as the art for the game is incredibly detailed.

Onimusha: Don't bother

William Hodgins, Amazon
1 August 2010
  • Summary: If you, like me, need to start at the beginning of a series to enjoy it out of a fear that one day you won't understand a reference, just skip this one and watch the cutscenes on youtube. The clunky early resident evil controls will put you right off this, whereas the controls in the next titles are much better.
