Onimusha: Warlords

Thunderbolt Games
19 May 2004
  • Excerpt: Yes, I realize that this game has been out for ages and itís been reviewed by everyone else but me. Give me a break. Iíve had this game for a while; I just never had the motivation to play it. Such is the life of a lazy American. At least this gives you the opportunity to read one guyís impressions of a game that was praised highly when it first came out, but may have lost some of its luster when the hype finally died down. So is the game actually good? Does anyone care?

Onimusha Warlords

The Armchair Empire

  • Conclusion: Load this game into your PS2, and behold the eye candy. This intro is going to blow you away! I watched it three times before I even started playing. The 3D characters on pre-rendered backgrounds are the source of some complaint, but I think it lends to the story. Capcom has inserted various objects that can be manipulated into the scenes as well. These objects serve to interlace the 2D and 3D graphics, and do a great job of it.

  • Excerpt: If Atari's Nolan Bushnell, the creator of Pong, ever could foresee the high production values of video games such as Capcom’s Onimusha Warlords back in 1972 when he was putting the finishing touches on his "ball and paddle" simulation, he may have given up altogether (well, thankfully he didn’t).
