Summary: Other than two NHL games for genesis, one being NHL 95, and Faceoff 2001 for original Playstation, this game is by far the best hockey game available on any console. Sure the graphics are not all that great compared to the newer consoles but the way you can change players, shoot and pass the puck, this is the best, its just so smooth. Hockey is not an easy game to design, Faceoff 2001 for PS2 is at the top of the mountain.
Summary: I just wanted to let everyone know that the season mode in NHL Faceoff is the worst. It is not interactive and there is no strong points to it. It is just horrible. The game is weak and to easy to score. The arenas however look are very lifelike they show great detail. Mario is in the game but the announcers do not say his name since he was a last minute add on.
Summary: 989 just wants your money, and so they put out a garbage title like this. This is a PSX rehash for PS2, because they have not yet commited to the new platform thinking they can get more money by staying with PSX, and merely releasing a product that has the PS2 packaging. I am very displeased with this company. I own NHL Faceoff 2000 for PSX, and there is almost no difference between it and 2001. The play-by-play is horrible, and only makes you wanna strangle Darren Pang.
Summary: I'm still getting the hang of the game, but I thought I would throw up my thoughts for anyone considering the game. I must admit, though, that overall it isn't one of 989's best and I was disappointed by the amount of time it took them to get the game out. Responsiveness - nice feel and time; Graphics - quite lacking for everything the emotion engine is supposed to deliver; Difficulty - rookie-mode is super easy, the other modes take some getting used to (probably an...
Summary: I cant beleive that people said this game [stunk]. I never liked sports games all i liked was games like GTA3 and soldier of fortune. but when i first played this game i was up till 3 am. who cares if it is easy winning kicks...!! and playing muti-player is a blast. The game has great control also.
Summary: The graphics could go on Xbox. (...)Their faces are all the same. The goalies don't even move until after the goal is scored. Get NHL 2001 or 2002. Oh yeah, and don't buy an Xbox. My friends and I added up all the money you would have to pay to buy an Xbox, a game, and a controller. (...)Why spend all this money when you could just get a PS2, and a game for the amount. (Since PS2 comes with a controller.) Sorry I'm going on and on about Xbox (...
Summary: I rented this game and I think it was the wrost 5 dollars I've ever spent in my life. I would never even consider buying this game after playing it for only a few minutes. I would have never even rented it if i knew it was going to be this horrible. The graphics are horrible and are no better than hockey games on ps1. This game gives a bad name to ps2 and all great sports games.
Summary: I'd avoid this game at all costs, or if you need to make a decision for yourself, spend the few bucks and rent first to see how bad this game is. The game has absolutely no improvements in graphics over NHL Faceoff 2000 for the old PlayStation. I honestly thought I put the old PS1 game into my PS2, it was *that bad*. The announcers are usually 4-5 seconds behind what's actually happening on the ice.
Summary: As a long time fan of the Faceoff series, I was sadly disappointed with this game. The game has fairly solid controls, but the graphics on most PSOne hockey games put this game to shame. The camera angles make it virtually unplayable. If you use an Ice level angle, it is difficult to see some of the players on the ice as you get a worms eye view of the action. If you use a High vertical angle, the players look like ants.
