NHL 2002

FunRanch.com
27 June 2002
  • Excerpt: If you like hockey, sports games, speed, or just slamming people into walls, you'll want to try this game.
  • Pros: It has a great hockey feel. You sometimes get lost in it.
  • Cons: The game has some bugs, and the fighting is kind of pointless.

NHL 2002

Playstation Illustrated
15 February 2002
  • Excerpt: Now that this year's hockey season has begun, we can focus on more important things: playing the video games to speed up the very long season ahead. With that said, NHL 2002 will do just that. Beginning with graphics and sound, I must say that everything here is top notch. The player models are incredible looking, and facial features are even more defined than ever before.

  • Excerpt: If you're a Canadian you're not a real Canadian without owning at least one hockey game. If you're not a Canadian but you would like to know what it feels like to be one, buy a hockey game -- actually, buy several, because that's how nuts you have to be.

  • Conclusion: All in all, NHL 2002 is really a must buy for most PS2 hockey fans. It's not the answer to your hockey simulation prayers, but it's a solid arcade game that's fun, addictive, and a major improvement over last year's version in terms of both the gameplay and the in-game features.

  • Excerpt: Whenever EA Sports is mentioned in the realm of videogame lingo, many things come to mind. I believe what many people immediately think of is the Madden series, which is well deserved, due to its impressive gameplay and sheer realism of football greatness. However, what also needs to be included with the talk of EA Sports is the heralded NHL series.

NHL 2002

The Armchair Empire

  • Conclusion: There are some great features in the game. Besides the usual setup options for difficulty and number of penalties, there are some neat extras available. The create-a-player function allows you to suit up for any team you'd like, or, maybe add a rookie that wasn't on the opening day rosters. It's really detailed, and the options that you tweak could have a significant effect on their effectiveness on the ice. Another neat addition is the Player Cards feature.

  • Excerpt: I must say, when I played the first installment of the NHL series on the PS2, I thought that it was ok. I thought that they had a lot of room for improvement, but that it was still a solid effort for the first time on the PS2. However, after getting my copy of NHL 2002 for the PS2 and playing it for an extensive period of time, I can say that this is by far the best hockey game that I have played since the genesis days. Allow me to tell you why...

NHL 2002 -

Futuregamez.net
12 December 2002
  • Excerpt: on the Playstation 2. It was, and still is, a terrific game marred by some periods of severe slowdown when several players were surrounding the puck or coming off the interchange bench. Only 11 months later and EA Sports have released their yearly update, and the second NHL title on the PS2. If you thought, or feared, that this was only going to be a minor update to last years game with roster changes you can rest easy.
