NeoGeo Battle Coliseum PS2 Review

Console Obsession
3 June 2010
  • Excerpt: NeoGeo Battle Coliseum is a fighting festival: a celebration of the rich history of SNK and their NeoGeo format. It’s a game that is sure to go down well with fans of the famous games and console, but it also should delight the legion of fighting game enthusiasts yearning for another brawl.

Neo Geo Battle Coliseum

Playstation Illustrated
9 May 2008
  • Excerpt: It's hard to describe the graphics on Neo Geo Battle Coliseum in a new way, because, well, they're pretty much identical to all the 2D fighters recently released by SNK Playmore. Basically, the fighters are pixely and everything has a look that seems frozen in time from years ago. While you can still have a great fighting game with these kind of looks, you've got to wonder when the update is coming.

PS2 Review - 'NeoGeo Battle Coliseum'

WorthPlaying
26 March 2008
  • Summary: Drawing characters from some of SNK’s biggest and well loved franchises, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum allows the use of the new 2–on–2 Tag Team battle system. This new system allows the player to switch characters during play and to perform ‘team’ attacks on their opponent.

NeoGeo Battle Coliseum

Digital Chumps
25 March 2008
  • Conclusion: This is the type of game I would at least rent and then maybe look to buy at a normal price, but SNK Playmore has released this title at $20, which I think is an excellent value. If you are into fighting games, this is an easy recommendation. It features a strong roster with plenty of unlockables and challenges to keep you going. I would recommend this to beginning fighter fans unless they are looking for a stark challenge however.

Expert Review

PSX Extreme
7 January 2008
  • Excerpt: It's always a good idea to bring together a classic cast of video game characters in any game, regardless of the format or genre. When it comes to SNK Playmore, they've got several well-known franchises to draw from, and they did just that by selecting characters from the likes of

Thunderbolt Games
6 January 2008
  • Excerpt: Meet Goodman. Nobody really cares about him. In a world where Geese Howard and Rugal Bernstein – you know, real fighting game bosses – dominate the playing field, this fellow comes up short. He looks like a cheap Igniz knockoff, wields a fiery whip, and controls a purple ball of flame shaped like a baboon’s head. Ooh, fearsome. His design practically screams, “ I’m a throwaway villain! Beware my generic scheming!

Neo Geo Battle Coliseum

Game Boyz
12 December 2007
  • Excerpt: Unfortunately many gamers have long since assigned the 2D fighter to the annals of gaming history. 3D stylized graphics have been prevalent since the early days of the PSone and the whole polygon era seemed to usher 2D games to the point of extinction. It’s too bad too since these days had such great hand drawn art and a certain charm that a lot of modern games just can’t match.
