NeoGeo Battle Coliseum is a fighting festival: a celebration of the rich history of SNK and their NeoGeo format. It’s a game that is sure to go down well with fans of the famous games and console, but it also should delight the legion of fighting game enthusiasts yearning for another brawl. Read more

Drawing characters from some of SNK’s biggest and well loved franchises, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum allows the use of the new 2–on–2 Tag Team battle system. This new system allows the player to switch characters during play and to perform ‘team’ attacks on their opponent. Read more

Like an old pair of gloves. Summer, 2005. Flushing, New York. Main Street, Chinatown. I look over my shoulder before stepping past the taped glass door into the underground mall. The hustle and bustle of the crowded streets, festering in the smells of car exhaust, sweat, and Chinese take-out, settles behind me as I scan the stores: A dimly lit shop lined in rows of black-wired shelves along the wall, all full of CDs and DVDs - and all bootleg, of course. Unfortunately many gamers have long since assigned the 2D fighter to the annals of gaming history. 3D stylized graphics have been prevalent since the early days of the PSone and the whole polygon era seemed to usher 2D games to the point of extinction. It’s too bad too since these days had such great hand drawn art and a certain charm that a lot of modern games just can’t match. Read more

It's hard to describe the graphics on Neo Geo Battle Coliseum in a new way, because, well, they're pretty much identical to all the 2D fighters recently released by SNK Playmore. Basically, the fighters are pixely and everything has a look that seems frozen in time from years ago. While you can still have a great fighting game with these kind of looks, you've got to wonder when the update is coming. Read more

Your level of enjoyment for NeoGeo Battle Coliseum is going to really depend on two factors. First, you have to really enjoy 2-D fighters, especially those of the SNK variety. Secondly, you have to appreciate throwback titles. NeoGeo Battle Coliseum doesn't bring anything new at all to the fighting formula, instead choosing to place all of its stock in the nostalgia factor. Read more

Shodown. Two characters from the 3D Samurai Shodown games are here, and while Shiki was in SvC Chaos, this is the first time outside of the Neo Geo Pocket Color games that we see a 2D rendition of Asura. Hanzo, Fuuma, and Mudman show up from the forgotten ADK semi-classic World Heroes (which is also being released in a compilation in the near future), and Mr. Big, Mr. Karate (a variation of Ryo) and Lee Pai Long fill out the Art of Fighting roster. It’s always a good idea to bring together a classic cast of video game characters in any game, regardless of the format or genre. When it comes to SNK Playmore, they’ve got several well-known franchises to draw from, and they did just that by selecting characters from the likes of Read more

You’re not going to find a better game for the PS2 this year at this price. I still can’t believe it’s under twenty bucks. This is exactly the kind of product SNK should have been putting out for the past two years instead of KoF MI 2/2k6 and KoF XI. I’m very pleased with this game. Whether you are new to 2-D fighters, or a long time vet, you can’t go wrong picking this up for the holidays. Read more
