Excerpt: If you think going out to Chino, CA, watching the street races and running from the cops is the perfect weekend, then go buy this game. The odds are you probably don’t, so I’ll explain to you why you should anyway.
Excerpt: Underground ’s most evident departure from Need For Speed past is the extraordinary visual style that permeates the game. Bright lights highlight the pseudo-San Francisco landscape, with neon signs, street lamps, and trailing tail lights giving the scene a decidedly urban-Asia flavor. To add to the style, the game sports a unique blur effect.
Excerpt: The Need for Speed series has always done a fantastic job of merging the controls of an arcade racer with some sim-type elements interspersed and officially licensed cars by the fistful, almost as if someone took the disparate parts of Gran Turismo and combined them with a heavy focus on the arcade elements. Nowhere is this more appropriate than in Need for Speed: Underground.
Excerpt: It's that time of year again! EA Sports hits us with the racing franchise that just keeps on going - Need for Speed: Underground. This time, the action takes place in the seedy world of street racing. Featuring appearances from 20 different licensed cars and a whole range of different musical artists, the game has a lot going for it from the back of the box.
Summary: Need For Speed Underground is a tremendous game that rev heads and casual gamers alike will enjoy. The graphics and sound combine to make this a visual and aural feast while the number of races and unlockables will keep you racing for weeks. Excellent stuff.
