Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: What kind of graphics can a game about 3 on 3 basketball with high flying dunks, and over-exaggerated moves possibly have? How about 'SUPERB?' NUFX obviously spent some time on making this game not only presentable, but absolutely shimmering. The courts themselves are the real deal, looking exactly like they do in real life up to the potholes in the concrete.

  • Excerpt: EA Sports has been hitting and missing with their sports titles on the PS2. Madden, NHL, soccer and boxing have all had impressive titles on the ps2 thanks to EA, but the baseball & basketball series haven't had such a blazing debut. That is, until now. EA has allowed the canadians of EA big to give basketball that same makeover they gave snowboarding. What's the result? One of the best games on the ps2, and any system for that matter.
  • Pros: EA BIG = God of Sports graphics, Replay Value unmatched by most games., Create a player is awesome, and detailed., Single player and Two Player Mode are wonderful.
  • Cons: Option to turn goaltending on & off is seriously needed., After a few days of playing, commentator becomes a tad repetitive, The stats for all players is not available.

  • Excerpt: Somehow this finished review slipped through the cracks. If you haven't had a chance to play the latest effort the house that SSX built, go rent it and then read up. I really don't know what kind of Super-Programmer serum the guys over the Big branch of EA Sports have been fed, but I wish to God it could be handed out to everyone else in the industry.

  • Conclusion: NBA Street creates a whole new genre within the basketball genre. Not only do you have to be able to play street ball, but you also have to be able to break some ankles and score with style, not just a wussy 15-foot jump shot, which likely would get rejected/goaltended in the game. Got to be able to take it to the hole and slam it in someone's face. It would have been nice to have the game support the multi-tap for a 3rd and 4th human player.
