Summary: I have played both Naval Ops... Naval Ops commander and gunner... and Commander is more involved to play than gunner. You have to worry about your escort ships, what formations are good for a certain situation, and the fixed "bird's eye view" game play is quite annoying. Gunner view can be adjusted where as in commander its pretty much a fixed camera angle. So, yeah, its a good game, but not as good as Naval ops Warship Gunner.
If your into the game battleship this is a good game

Summary: There is a lot of blowing up things. You have a main ship or carrier and get escorts of up to 3 more ships to help you. I thought the text story could have been better but it works. You can build your ships as time goes by. I had it before but sold it so had to get it back. The first 4 levels not super hard after that, well I didn't get much farther. You see the battle from a angle above.

Summary: I normally love strategy games, including naval warfare. For whatever reason, Naval Ops Commander just didn't grab my attention and hold onto it. You are watching naval battles from a top-down viewpoint. The graphics aren't what the PS2 can offer. You get grey waters, grey boats, and greyish lands. The grey boats steam through the repetitive grey waters, leaving little trails behind them. They fire at the other grey boats, and health bars reduce down to zero.
Summary: Okay...so it takes you a moment to adjust to the story line. But odds are you already played "Gunner", and so have an idea of what you're up against...the whole alternative time/universe thing. With bad guys...only more evil. Koei kept the enjoyable things about "NOpG", and tossed in escort ships ala AC5. You can still work to improve, modify and customize your own little killing machine fleet.
Summary: I bought this game because I like war simulation games. I think this game is really easy until you get to the second area then it gets a little harder. But it is still really fun to play. One of my favorite parts of the game is that you can design your own ships, like an aircraft carrier with aircraft or a destroyer. One thing I dont like about it is it has some levels that are really hard and then the next level is really easy.
Summary: I also purchased this game after playing Warship Gunner, a game I found to be immensely entertaining. The first problem I had with the game is that the color doesn't seem to work - I'm playing in black and white! Second, and more important, the game play is terrible. The bird's-eye perspective is so confusing that it makes it so that you have no idea what is going on. Just awful.
Summary: I bought this game after playing Naval Ops:Warship Gunner and found it similar, but different. The game play has the same basic story, has slightly better graphics, and some extra weapons. I prefer the Gunner's scope versus Commander's birds eye view of the battle. The escort ships can be like watching an old 3 stooges show sometimes. Some of the battles ar unrealistically difficilt, while I could pulvarize a "supership" in no time flat with a simple premade ship.
