Not up to the hype

  • Summary: I rented this game with the intent of seeing whether or not I liked it, and to compare it to ESPN MLB when that comes out. I must say that based on the reviews I had read on this game, I was somewhat disappointed. It was a good game overall, but to be honest I got more enjoyment out of going back to World Series Baseball 2k3 when I returned the game. Let me explain what I believe are the pros and cons of the game. Pro: The interface was great.

So so.

  • Summary: Not all that great. The graphics weren't as good as the other reviews made them out. I liked the effort that went into making the crowds react correctly, but they all looked like botched versions of "The Sims" characters. The other frustrating thing was the computer always making diving catches. I could barely get any hits, and it's not realistic since the pros don't do it that way.

Great in some ways, Poor in others.

  • Summary: My first choice this year was MVP Baseball 2004 by EA Sports. The hype for this game got to me. After reading several extremely positive previews/reviews, I went out and purchased it at Best Buy. Graphics/Presentation The game looks great. The stadiums look good. Some of the players look similiar to their real faces. There are many objects that the ball actually bounces off of, including glass panels and the mountain area at the Angel's stadium.

Some Flaws, but decent.

  • Summary: As you might see in these reviews there is a HUGE flaw that you can't overlook. but it's still a great game. 1) No Barry Bonds. do to him not being in the union, so you have to change "J. Dowd" to Bonds. 2) Left handed players RARELY hit HR's when you use them. i use the Red Sox, David Ortiz in the HR Derby is lucky to hit 2 HR's. and in games he's lucky to get a double. this is HUGE mistake on EA's part.

Lets' over do it a little...

  • Summary: For the baseball sensationalist this is a great game. For the purist... it is lacking. I have never seen so many players flying across the field to make spectacular catches. Pitchers able to get two impressive strikeouts after a lead off triple. There is just too much fluff... and not much meat. The graphics are good. Game play is good. Strategy, manageability, not there for the purist. I have played the game with no adjustments.
