Excerpt: It’s been six years in the making, but Musashi finally has a sequel. The original game (which we jokingly refer to as the free game that came with the Final Fantasy VIII demo) gained cult status alongside other games like Einhander that were released by Squaresoft (as they were known then) in the late 90’s. After spending about twelve hours with Musashi Samurai Legend, I’m honestly a little disappointed.
Excerpt: I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of manga and anime, though I do appreciate the skill of it, so when faced with lines like the above (which I was before even the game’s title screen) I tend to roll my eyes a little. Despite some imaginative touches like cities built on the backs of flying whales, Square Enix’s Musashi sticks to clichéd story formulas and characters.
Summary: The release of Musashi: Samurai Legend can only be described as a disappointment from Square-Enix. If you're desperate for something different, or and RPG styled action game then this may keep you entertained.
Conclusion: There’s nothing here you haven’t seen before. Nothing innovative or new brought to the genre so it’s not exactly a step forward in the video game industry. It’s all about entertainment; to step away from reality and hopefully play through some fun experiences with Musashi. I’d recommend you rent this if you want a weekend of some Samurai action but it’s not worthy of a purchase unless you strive to collect all Square-Enix games.
