This could have been so much better!!

NEO-CS- "Cyber Soldier", Amazon
30 November 2000
  • Summary: Moto GP was to me, a disappointing Motorcycle racing experience. The graphics are fantastic but aside from this, I didn't find too much to be impressed by. This game focuses too much on Simulation than the arcade style gameplay. There are only 5 tracks which limits the replay value. Although there are plenty of switchable options such as a large amount of Motorcyles and Helmets, this just doesnt enhance the gameplay.

frustrating fun

Amazon

  • Summary: Moto GP does an admirable job of balancing arcade and sim elements in a motorcycle racing game. This, however, will drive you mad- the learning curve is steep enough that arcade racing fans may give up on it, but at the same time, the adjustments that you make to tune your bike to the course don't seem to do anything at all. The graphics are GEORGEOUS. This is the first game I've ever played where I would actually sit through the replay mode.

Excellent Graphics Limited Life

Mr. Simon Arnold "bad-head-day", amazon.co.uk
18 May 2001
  • Summary: The game is easy to get into once you realise this isn't another hurtle around at full whack and ignore the corners, braking counts for everything. The attention to detail is excellent, replays are so close to reality even down to camera shake as you go past. However only having five tracks does limit the life, after a month this will be but a distant memory that gets pulled out only in moments of ultimate tedium.

Rent it...

Mr. Simon Arnold "bad-head-day", amazon.co.uk
7 May 2001
  • Summary: ...it's a good-looking game, nobody can deny that, but it is so shallow. Only 5 tracks, the rewards you get for completing challenges are poor - other riders to choose, reverse tracks, photos (!). I'd pay for it if there was a full compliment of tracks, it quickly became repetetive. The tracks that are there are very authentic, Donnington IS Donnington, Jerez IS Jerez etc.

  • Excerpt: "Moto GP had a high standards to live up to coming from the Namco school of gaming wizardry. With Ridge Racer V coming out nearly a year before moto gp this is practically a second generation PS2 game. It is as anyone who has played the game will tell you very realistic. Unfortunately this is what causes the downfall of an otherwise fine game. Granted you can make it easier by turning off the simulation effects but it's still not particularily easy ...
  • Pros: Graphics, realism
  • Cons: Very steep learning curve, few tracks .

Disappointing

Martin from Dublin "utopia007", amazon.co.uk
20 February 2001
  • Summary: I wasn't overly impressed with the game. Perhaps I don't have the patients to stick with it long enough to get the hang of it. If you like sims, I think you'll like this game. But I'd advise you to rent it before buying. What really disappointed me was the graphics. Aliasing problems all over the place.
