Decent, but Deception is better

Paul Schifferli, Amazon
3 April 2006
  • Summary: Mortal Kombat's triumphant return with "Deadly Alliance" leaves somewhat of a sour taste leftover. The plus side is fatalities are easy to execute, however, each character only has one fatality, and some are downright silly. Deception plays the same as this game, but has a much better Konquest mode, better characters, and more fatalities.

mediocre

  • Summary: when the original MK came out back in the early 90's, it was groundbreaking and everyone knew it was like the next big thing. Now its 2003 and the 5th (allthough there were many very unsuccesful MK games between) Mortal Kombat is now out. And I'm not really that impressed. Yeah the graphics are light years ahead of the the others and the there are weapons and the each fighter has two fighting styles. But the MK franchise just seems used up.

I Was Expecting to be Impressed

Lord Kayoss, Amazon
2 December 2002
  • Summary: I must say that the newest installment in one of the two greatest tournament fighting franchises of all time is quite a disappointment. After a five year hiatus, Mortal Kombat returns in a most discouraging fashion. Despite an intriguing, in-depth storyline, many returning favorite characters, gallons of blood and twisted gore, and enough game extras equivalent to a blockbuster DVD movie, Deadly Alliance falls short of delivering the masterpiece we had come to expect on...

Deadly Alliance....

Marcus Reed, Amazon
25 November 2002
  • Summary: Well, I have been waiting a long time for the next installment of the Mortal Kombat franchise, and I have mixed reviews. First of all, the storyline,as always, is excellent. The characters have been expanded upon since Mortal Kombat 1, and this game adds another beautiful layer to the mythology. The added features are unreal, the Krypt alone is work hours upon hours of play. The added images and video in content is great as well.

Mortal Kombat too old

hindhaugh..., Ciao
13 May 2003
  • Excerpt: "Well folks yet another mortal kombat game released and its still got nothing new to show. The graphics since its been designed for the PS2 are impressive. Its taken a tekken style engine for its moves and attacks. Its also allows the use of weapons which is a damn nice change from the other mortal kombat games. Yes weapons were used in some of the other MK games, but you didnt get the right feel for them and they looked 2D and frankly rubbish. ...
  • Pros: Good graphics, plenty of gore, new death moves
  • Cons: Same old mortal kombat with a tekken engine

Wait for Soul Calibur 2

Ryno, Amazon
29 January 2003
  • Summary: I rented this and thought it was great at first. I figured there would be tons of extras and Fatalites and all that good stuff from past MK games. Boy was I wrong, the conquest mode gets old fast and most of the moves that you learn you will never have to use because each fighter has about two or three combos that can be used effectively repeatedly.

If you looked up the word "disappointment" in the dictionary

Carlo Monte "Carlo Monte", Amazon
5 December 2002
  • Summary: ...you would find the box art to Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance right next to it. After a 5 year hiatus, there are really no excuses for what the team at Midway has produced. This game could have easily been a 5 star game, but for whatever reason, all the things that could have made it great are skimped on or in some cases non-existant. On the plus side, all the graphics, character models, and backrounds are wonderfully done.

8 December 2008
