Excerpt: If you are the type that thinks baseball games are just way too boring, Midway has made just the game for you. How could you expect anything less from the makers of NFL Blitz ? MLB Slugfest 20-03 delivers awesome action in Midway's first baseball game. I was actually pleasantly surprised with the graphics in this game, knowing that NFL Blitz usually doesn't put that much into making the graphics look believable.
Excerpt: It has been a rough year for baseball. With the talk of steroids being heavily used by players, a potential strike coming up before the playoffs, and the All Star game being called a tie, I have lost all interest in the game of baseball. In fact, I can’t even stand to play baseball video games anymore. Whatever happened to the “fun baseball games of yesterday like the original Bases Loaded or Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball on the SNES?
Excerpt: You know what you are getting when you buy this title. Slugfest is made by Midway, the company who created NFL Blitz and NHL Hitz. So you know that this isn’t going to be your typical baseball game. Players will have super human abilities and the ability to get on fire. Now my problem was, I didn’t think this kind of game would work for baseball. Football and hockey are very physical sports and that’s one of the reasons why Blitz and Hitz were so popular.
Conclusion: As with most of the other Midway sports games, Tim Kitzrow returns in MLB Slugfest 20-03 to offer his own brand of high-octane play-by-play. Midway has given Kitzrow a partner this time out to add some more wit and humor. The color commentator’s name, Jim Shorts, should give you an idea of what to expect as these two guys interact during the game. If you thought the NHL 2002 team of Don Taylor and Jim Hughson was funny, just wait until you hear some of this dialogue.
Excerpt: Midway's sports games do seem to have a knack for hooking me, at least slightly. Blitz certainly did it, despite me hating football games, Red Card did it, despite me liking soccer sims, and to an extent Slugfest 20-03 does it, even though I loathe everything about baseball with all of my being.
