  • Excerpt: If I rated games solely on the opening video/music montage, MLB would get a 10. You can’t beat opening moments that feature Jane’s Addiction mixed with Jim Edmonds. Once you get into the game, you are treated to simple controls that are easy to grasp but in-depth enough that you have almost full control of every aspect of the game. One of the coolest new features in the single player game is the use of the USB headset/mic set-up to issue commands.

The Gamers Temple
21 February 2005
  • Excerpt: MLB 2005 provides PS2 baseball fans with more than just a roster update over the 2004 incarnation of the game. The first thing you’ll notice is that the game has undergone a graphics overhaul and that the results are good. The animations are smooth, most of the players are recognizable, and the stadiums look pretty nice. The only really bad thing there is to say about the graphics is that the crowds look flat. Literally flat.

  • Excerpt: Da Introduction: If you’re a baseball fan you’re gonna love what Sony’s brought to the plate in this one! You’ll need to rely on your “feel” for the game when pitching and batting as the vibrations of your controller guide you. And if that’s not enough, use your EyeToy to take a snapshot of yourselve and map that to a player – now you’re really in the game! If you have the Ethernet adapter you can login online and challenge other players.

PSX Extreme
26 April 2004
  • Excerpt: Forget everything you remember about previous 989 games, MLB 2005 is a brand new bag. Sony has given the team at 989 a bigger team, more time and a bigger budget, and they are making the most of this opportunity. MLB 2005, while far from perfect is a huge step forward for not only the series, but for the group at 989 as a whole.

Operation Sports
14 April 2004
  • Excerpt: 989 Sports has been around the Sony Playstation and Playstation 2 since their inception. Kudos should be given to Sony for staying with the development house and giving them the opportunity to succeed; even when reviews have usually been average or below average. However, whether the products have been good or bad, they’ve usually sold enough copies to keep Sony interested in another release the following year.

Game Over Online
5 April 2004
  • Excerpt: If you were a serious baseball gamer last year, you probably couldn’t avoid the justified hatred issued towards MLB 2004. Personally, I just couldn’t get around some of the control issues and graphical blunders that were rife throughout the title, and that was some of the issues thrown out by the media. Bugs, slowdowns, poor sound, the list went on and on.
