Excerpt: Graphically, Sony’s MLB '06: The Show is decent, but nothing spectacular. Player models look very nice, while the stadiums and crowd lack a bit in the visual department. What really impresses me, however, are the animations associated with the players, especially those in the field. The transitions between animations are smooth and fluid, and add greatly to the realism of the game. All of the sounds of America’s pastime are present in MLB '06: The Show .
Excerpt: When the “experts” looked at the 2005 Major League Baseball season, it was hard to find any of these gurus who picked the Chicago White Sox to finish any higher than third in the American League Central. It was the Twins’ division to lose. The Cleveland Indians looked like the young upstarts with the firepower to make a run at the top, or maybe nab the wild-card. The sleeper team in the division was, believe it or not, the Detroit Tigers.
Conclusion: The audio is fantastic. Forget about the crowd’s cheers and the way they call out your name when you hit a home-run. It’s all about the three man commentary; it sounds so spot-on it’ll shock you. Very few sports games have this sort of detailed commentary. Each play is called exactly like it would be in real life. This is fantastic stuff and will thrill all sports fans. The sound effects are ripped from last year’s game, for the most part.
