Excerpt: The original Midway Arcade Treasures was quite a success, we were surprised and Midway probably was as well. It just goes to show that old games still appeal to those who can get past the rather ugly forefronts, which – as the sales of the original seem to suggest – is quite a lot of people. Midway was bound to follow up with a new collection of old games.
Excerpt: Considering that Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is a blast from the past, it would be hard to compare its look and sound to anything current. With that said, this goodness of old school arcade games is due to be compared with its original coin-op machines. And comparatively, Arcade Treasures 2 does a pretty good job of replication. However, don’t expect to be wowed by anything in particular, because the games within aren’t (in my humble opinion) quite arcade-perfect.
Excerpt: If I was told, at a game store, that Midway Arcade Treasures 2 was a budget-priced $20, I would immediately turn to them and say, ‘what’s the total going to come to?’. I’m a compilation freak, as many of you might know from my review of last year’s Midway Arcade Treasures, Intellivision Lives!, Namco TV Games, Atari TV Games, and Ms. Pac-Man TV Games.
Summary: Classic compilations usually focus on the
golden age of gaming from the early 80's, and this collection is no exception
with classic titles such as Wizard of Wor, Spy Hunter II and Gauntlet II making
appearances. However, Midway Arcade Treasures 2 also includes a collection of
newer arcade classics including Mortal Kombat 2 & 3, Rampage World Tour,
Total Carnage, Primal Rage and Pit-Fighter.
Summary: Midway Arcade Treasures 2 has its problems with the odd glitch and some transition problems from arcade to current-gen consoles but overall it provides what it sets out to - a retro ride through Midway's arcade past and re-introduces some of the old arcade classic that old-skool gamers know and love.
Excerpt: Midway Arcade Treasures 2 brings 20 all-time classic arcade games to the XBox. Get ready for a blast from the past as the sequel to Midway Arcade Treasures offers hours of retro-gaming bliss and a history of the origins of each of these memory-joggers. Some of the treasures on offer this time around, then: APB is the cops and robbers game where you take the role of Officer Bob and his police car, in pursuit of the bad boys.
Excerpt: Basically, if you are a 20-something who spent a lot of time in arcades growing up, just go out and by this. You will be filled with a child like glee. Seriously. Glee. You will be filled with it. This is a great collection of older arcade games and it has given me more enjoyment then a lot of brand new games I’ve played lately. If you are not a 20-something who spent a lot of time in an arcade, perhaps, someone younger.
