Metal Saga

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: As is the case with gameplay, Metal Saga has its own unique style. From a technical standpoint, Metal Saga isn’t pushing the PS2’s technology. Characters, especially tanks, show off enough detail, though for the most part everything has a bland, drab feeling. On one hand, I get that the world is supposed to be a barren wasteland, but frankly I’m at the point where I’d like my barren wastelands to have a little more life.

  • Excerpt: The game centers around exploration and bounty hunting; it's generally non-linear with the only thing keeping you from walking from one end of the world to the other being the difficulty of the enemies you'll encounter. Your relative combat effectiveness doesn't depend entirely on your levels or stats so much as it does on the equipment you've found or can afford.

  • Conclusion: The visuals will likely turn most off to what is quite honestly one of the most entertaining RPGs to hit the PS2, but a general lack of even casual steering towards the storyline does make the game seem aimless at times. Still, it's worth the adventure.
