(PlayStation 2 Review) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

The Entertainment Depot
14 September 2011
  • Summary: Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater is the best game available on the PlayStation 2, and it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played in my life. I can’t really think of a more ringing endorsement than that. If you’re already a fan of the series, then that endorsement applies tenfold. This is the game you’ve been waiting for, make sure you play it.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Game Boyz

  • Excerpt: Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid 2 was one of the best selling games of 2001, despite some negative fan reaction against the highly philosophical and perplexing storyline of the game, as well as the surprise introduction of a new playable character named Raiden. This season, gamers are once again confronted by several high-profile game releases vying for their attentions, and Konami's latest chapter in the Metal Gear Solid series certainly generated a fair amount of...

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Playstation Illustrated
7 September 2007
  • Excerpt: Where to begin? When we last left the series at Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty , we all had a headache. I’ll start off by saying fear not, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is far more straight forward, and you needn’t worry about 30 minute codec conversations or a story that only makes sense to the most hardcore of conspiracy theorists. As one would expect, the graphics in Metal Gear Solid 3 are considerably better than its precursor, deceptively so.

  • Summary: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is undoubtedly one of the best games of the year so far, with (in my opinion) only the GameCube's Resident Evil 4 surpassing it. The sheer amount of new additions to the game along with increased gameplay time makes this a must-have game for anyone who owns a PlayStation 2.

  • Excerpt: It was at the beginning of the PlayStation 2’s life cycle that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was lauded as a key selling point for the console – then Grand Theft Auto 3 happened. When MGS2 was finally released; the convoluted nature of the story and arguably, the poor decision to have the player control a core-character other than Solid Snake left a nasty taste in the mouth, especially with those who had been eagerly anticipating the sequel.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Into Liquid Sky
16 November 2005
  • Excerpt: After the "controversy" that surrounded Metal Gear Solid 2 , I had to wonder if Hideo Kojima and crew would be able to return as the premier developer for the PS2. This was not to say that MGS2 was a bad game, but the major plot twist and overuse of story sequences, especially towards the end of the game, managed to turn a number of people off of the series. More than a few complained about the game being way too much story and not enough gameplay.
  • Pros: Some of the best graphics available for the PS2, Excellent story, Solid gameplay elements, Lengthy adventure
  • Cons: Camera is starting to show age

  • Excerpt: Ah, yes, November. The time of year when all the systems call upon the finest game developers with sky high production values and duke it out with their killer apps for the year. It just so happens that every 'killer app' status game this year is a sequel in a game series.
