Summary: Just writing this review to give a quick warning: Mercenaries 2 servers were taken down about a year ago, and the game will freeze your Xbox if you try to play while connected to Xbox Live. You MUST play offline. There is a workaround involving a demo for another EA game, but this ought to have been fixed by now. Way to go, EA, you've ruined an otherwise good game.
Summary: This game is does a lot of things right and wrong at the same time. The positive aspects that really stand out: a huge varied map made of both urban and rural landscapes, tons of tools to use (way more than the original game), the freedom to aproach most missions the way you want to, spectacular explosions, solid orcheastral score, no more water-of-death (you can finally swim and use boats), numerous humorous instances throughout the game, and finally, it's just really...
Summary: Lack of visual polish, and over poor artistic quality hold back what is an extremely fun game. The controls are a bit off, but it does not kill what fun there is to have with this game. Could it be better yes, but I have no problems recommending this game based on fun factor alone.
Summary: This game is definitely fun. You can play it the way you want, be it running and gunning like superman or staying back and calling in airstrikes to clear out hostiles like a special ops member. There isn't as much of a feeling of freedom as the Grand Theft Auto series, but i honestly take the Mercs game much more seriously.
Summary: I bought it and I will give a quick opinion of the game. First off the graphics. They arent bad but for christ sakes I think mercs 1 on ps2 looked better. I have recently bought mercs 1 on xbox and was playing that in anticipation of this game. The xbox version of mercs 1 looks far superior. The vehicles even looked better in mercs 1 especially on xbox. The vehicles looked more detailed in mercs 1 this is even more apparent in the xbox version.
Summary: This game does not do everything right, but what it does right it does extremely well. If you want to blow things up in a nearly limitless amount of ways... get this game. You can blow up buildings with air strikes, c4, rockets, tanks, helicopters, and the explosions are by far the best I have ever seen. To stand at the foot of a skyscraper and blow it up, while looking upwards, and have it all happen as it would real life, is an amazing thing.
Summary: My advice to anyone is stick with the original as Mercenaries 2 seems to be suffering a "Just Cause" infection with a hint of EA-ism. The worst addition has to be the regenerative health as on its own merits...may make the game easier to cope with but in practical terms...made Pandemic think it was okay now to throw ten times the pain at you now players have regenerative health. Most fights degrade into "get splattered with a rocket...hide while you heal..
Summary: Its really fun in the beginning but it gets boring fast. I hate the guns because they feel so weak and unpredictable. One time I may empty a clip and kill 3 guys while another time I will exhaust 3 clips to kill 1 guy. The unlockable cars really add some more gameplay time to this game. A really big plus was that EVERYTHING is destructable. Don't like that bridge? Does your car not fitting through those two houses make you angry?
Summary: Horrible looking game. I just wasted 80 bucks for this and i'm really dissapointed. I've been waiting for 3 years for the sequel.. Do not waste money on this The game is totally unfinished. Online has region lock Anti-Aliasing and wide-screen doesn't work either. Don't waste your time. I learned my lesson.
