Maximo: Ghosts to Glory

  • Excerpt: "I was quite looking forward to loading up Maximo but to be honest I was a little disappointed. It's a good platformer but it doesn’t let you make mistakes. It’s made in the arcade style with lives so I expected it to not be on the easy side but I didn’t realise quite how hard it would be. Plot: The story starts with Achilles (Maximos ex-advisor) turning against him while he's away and forcing Maximos queen to marry him. Maximo turns up to save ...

Gravedigging for modernised retro gems? Dig deep for 'Defender' instead.

  • Summary: Many people who write negative reviews will say that their product is a rip-off. However, no product ever reviewed is the biggest rip-off in human history. Instead, it is inside this game... You see, there was once a knight named Maximo, who left his kingdom in the hands of his trusted friend and adviser, Achille, while he went to fight in wars outside the boundaries of his kingdom.

Very difficult

O. El-Hai, Amazon
16 May 2003
  • Summary: I usually don't review games until I've finished them, but this game is very hard, I couldn't finish it. I saved the game, having only one extra life. And now I can't continue, because it's too hard to beat the next levels without dying at least once. So if you consider buying this game, the first thing you should know is, it is a VERY HARD game. It requires a lot of patience. other than that... The graphics are pretty good, nothing spectacular though.

This could have been a great game but...

"flambards3", amazon.co.uk

  • Summary: The one big problem with Maximo, I've found, is the difficulty of saving the game. The save points can be difficult to find, and when you do find one, you need a specified number of coins to "buy" a save. If you are not able to save your game, then you will end up starting at the same point each time you play the game, and progress can be extremely difficult. This makes for a frustratingly repetitive and irritating experience.
