Max Payne (PS2)

ccgr.org
4 July 2013
  • Excerpt: Imagine you are a cop. You come home, and you notice a picture is crooked. You move towards it to straighten it out, and find the house in shambles. You pick up the phone, call 911, and say there is an intruder in your house. Running up the stairs, you hear your wife\'s voice. She is screaming in terror. Your heart pounds, and you open your infant child\'s door. A man comes out, firing at you. You fire back, and kill him. You check on your daughter, and find she is dead.

Max Payne by Rockstar

Game Monkeys
5 March 2013
  • Summary: This game is a good third person shooter. The story is the best part and will make you get through those tough spots. The only problem is that it could have played smoother if it were better implemented on the PS2.
  • Pros: Story, graphics, sound effects, voice-acting, level design, just about everything.
  • Cons: Not a really good frame rate, the game gets choppy too often, you should be able to play on whatever difficulty setting you want to from the very start.

Max Payne review (iOS)

GameZone
19 April 2012
  • Excerpt: Rockstar Games has been doing a pretty good job when it comes to bringing its classics to the App Store.  A few months back, it brought the multi-million selling Grand Theft Auto III to both newer iPhone and iPad devices, and while the controls weren’t the greatest, every ounce of Liberty City madness that the console versions were known for made it intact through those devices.

Max Payne

Playstation Illustrated
6 January 2005
  • Excerpt: The graphics in Max Payne look good, plain and simple. Everything in this dark and dismal environment screams atmosphere. The areas look good, well as good as an ice-cold, forboding NYC can look while one is on a mission of revenge, dodging bullets and thugs at every turn. Everything works well. Sure, Max's continual smirk is a bit strange - like a twisted Bruce Willis - but after a while, you get the feeling he has to smirk like this.

Max Payne

  • Excerpt: Originally developed for and best realised on Windows PCs, Max Payne translated very well to the super-console format. It is a game of such innovative vision incarnate that it veritably creates a new videogame genre, the "cinematic shooter.

Max Payne

The Next Level
28 January 2002
  • Excerpt: Max Payne’s story is solid, if not a little convoluted and implausible. Following the struggle of Max Payne , whose family has been brutally murdered by a group of drug junkies, you follow the trail of clues through various gangs as you try to uncover why this happened to you of all people. The story is fully voice acted and told mostly through sleek comic book style panels, which look very cool and help give the title a distinct character.

PSX Extreme
23 December 2001
  • Excerpt: Being praised as one of the best PC games of the year, Max Payne is a new twist in the action genre that we've become o' so accustomed to. Created by the minds of Duke Nukem, 3D Realms has designed the very first cinematic action title, complete with slow-motion sequences that show bullets escaping from their gun-barrels and striking the faces, chests, or limbs of "evil doers".
