  • Excerpt: follows the story of Calintz, a captain in a mercenary outfit, The Tears of Blood, that is dedicated to helping the Human Alliance defeat the “may as well be elves” Yason. As the game begins, they work under a general of Alliance and are about to depart on a plan that just may end the war over the land between the Humans and Yason.

Magna Carta: Tears of Blood

Into Liquid Sky
23 July 2006
  • Excerpt: You have to give Atlus credit: they continue to bring in niche RPGs to North America that would normally would never see the light of day. Such is the case with Magna Carta: Tears of Blood . This Banpresto/Softmax RPG is built along the same lines as Square's Final Fantasy series - a large, sweeping fantasy RPG about a massive conflict where the player learns about the characters and their place in the story.
  • Pros: Well designed characters and locations, Timing based combat is fun yet challenging, Interesting story
  • Cons: Gameworld looks a bit blocky, Whole game has a sluggish pace, Voice acting is poor

Magna Carta: Tears of Blood

Game Over Online
2 December 2005
  • Excerpt: Despite what Magna Carta: Tears of Blood thinks it is, it's the first major CRPG to feature a lesbian romance between its main characters. This is because Calintz is a woman . I don't care what his voice actor sounds like. Calintz is wearing women's clothing and has a woman's hairstyle. Wonky character design aside, I'd imagine Magna Carta is going to be a cult classic.

Magna Carta: Tears of Blood

Project COE
15 November 2005
  • Conclusion: The voice acting is probably some of the worst of this entire generation. That’s really a disappointment. The voice actors don’t use any emotion whatsoever, and the lines they have to work with are terrible. It’s really bizarre to have a female-looking character speak with a very deep voice and no emotion. It doesn’t fit together and breaks the illusion the game is trying to create.

  • Excerpt: No, we're not talking about a legal document limiting the power of English monarchs in the year of 1215 (But, if you can make a fun videogame about that, we'd love to see it!). Atlus and Softmax's Magna Carta: Tears of Blood is a new roleplaying game for the PS2 that has made its way from Korea to Japan, and is now on its way to make a new niche in the United States.
  • Pros: ups: stunning graphics, challenging new battle system
  • Cons: downs: slow storyline, not-so-great voice acting
