Excerpt: RPG business has become big business over the last few years. Our appetite for new titles has become such that we're seeing all kind of new games. Some actually new, some import translations and some seriously retro conversions. The last category seems owned by Working Designs, the first by Squaresoft. The middle category has been a mixed bag.
Excerpt: Legaia 2 was a rather low key release. In fact, I didn’t even know it existed until it started showing up in bargain bins for $20 a few months after release. Although such treatment in no way means that a game isn’t worth playing (the same happened to games in the Suikoden series, after all), in Legaia 2 ’s case, it was low key because it had little to get people excited with. It is, to be simple, very average in almost every way.
Excerpt: Legend of Legaia 2 has a very interesting but typical story. It starts off with a young hero named Lang, who is on a quest to return a scared water crystal that was stolen from the village by a madman named Avalon. This madman then does something really nasty and changes their world into an evil, dark place.
Excerpt: There are a few guidelines that are attached to a majority of movies, games, or stories. The good guy beating the bad guys is the most obvious one that comes to mind. Another one is that the main character will always escape a deadly trap, especially if other people have already perished in it.
Excerpt: Although there have been many RPGs on the Playstation, very few get the attention that they really deserve. Legend of Legaia definitely belongs in this category. A clichéd but fun story coupled with an interesting battle system, a long satisfying quest, and strong aesthetics best summed the game up. Legaia 2: Duel Saga is the second entrant into Sony's Legaia series and quite frankly is a surprisingly strong title that does have several weaknesses.
