La Pucelle: Tactics PS2 Review

Console Obsession
31 May 2010
  • Excerpt: With their offbeat sense of humour and often bizarre gameplay mechanics, Nippon Ichi are a unique company with their own unmistakeable style. The developer doesn’t use exceptional graphics to make themselves noticed, instead crafting games so deep that you’d think you could drown. Despite being the oldest of the three games (the other two being Disgaea and Phantom Brave of course) La Pucelle: Tactics is the latest game to be released here in Europe.

  • Excerpt: Let us start with the graphics or, more importantly, the art. Don't be fooled by the uninspired boxart. The actual character and monster designs are quite good if a bit cliché (pay attention you'll be seeing that word a lot). The design does tend to lean a bit too hard towards the cute spectrum but it's not bad enough so that you choke on it.

La Pucelle Tactics

Just RPG

  • Excerpt: Thanks to Mastiff, La Pucelle Tactics , a strategy/RPG from Nippon Ichi Software, finally made it to American shores in early May, 2004. The game shares hordes of similarities to last year's hit, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness , but still has its fair share of originality. So does the game live up to Disgaea ? Read on! Despite its recent release, La Pucelle was actually developed by Nippon Ichi before Disgaea . Atlus published Disgaea in the U.S.

  • Excerpt: As the predecessor to Disgaea: The Hour of Darkness, La Pucelle: Tactics has an impressive reputation to maintain and uphold within the realm of Strategy RPGs. Nippon Ichi's latest domestic release ultimately fails to improve on the standards established by Disgaea, but offers solid gameplay and an intriguing storyline that should not be overlooked. You can only be so darling when you're hunting demons. "She's loud. She's self-centered.

La Pucelle Tactics

The Armchair Empire
24 July 2004
  • Conclusion: Once your characters take the battlefield, the meat and bones of the game come out. There’s the usual scooting around on tiles to maneuver around enemies, so to set up attacks, as well as the ability for groups of characters to gang up on a nearby enemy for extra damage. However, the two many features that help to set La Pucelle apart from its contemporaries are that players can bring most enemies onto their own side if they choose, and there is also the presence of Dark...

La Pucelle: Tactics

Game Over Online
8 June 2004
  • Excerpt: La Pucelle: Tactics is the latest Nippon Ichi developed strategy role-playing game for the PS2. In its homeland of Japan, it was released over two years ago which, for fans of last year’s excellent and overlooked Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, may come as a bit of a surprise. La Pucelle has most of the same quirky anime trappings as Disgaea and it plays a lot like it too. For a certain subset of gamers, that should be very good news.

  • Conclusion: Did I mention the game is similar to Disgaea? You might want to check that out too...
  • Pros: It’s even more Disgaea-style gameplay from Nippon Ichi., Just like Disgaea, there are some genuine “laugh out loud” moments., You’re getting a lot of gameplay for your money., Great combat system that stays fun even after the amount of hours you’ll be putting into the game.
  • Cons: It was released, Disgaea here, but was made, it, and you can tell., PSone style graphics again., Will only appeal to the hardcore strategy RPG’ers
