Excerpt: For the most part, Kinetica sports some pretty sharp graphics. The tracks range from complex (but visually bland) cityscapes to gorgeous wooded areas that really show off the game's engine. Unfortunately, while the frame rate doesn't usually dip down too low, when there's a lot of action on the screen the game can really chug. It's unfortunate, too, because some of the sense of speed that you get from the game disappears when that happens.
Excerpt: Does the world really need another futuristic racing game? I found myself asking this question more and more as I glided down the myriad tracks of Kinetica . It felt like I had fired these same weapons and done these same power slides hundreds of times over, only in a slightly different form. I felt like I could check off every element I was seeing from a component list from other, more revolutionary games. General concept: F-Zero , check.
Excerpt: Kinetica follows a long line of futuristic racers, like Wipeout and Rollcage , which have tried to convey a sense of speed while keeping a futuristic theme intact by presenting well-done racing environments. In Kinetica , racers actually become the racing vehicles as they wear Kinetic Suits, outfitted with wheels, to allow them to race along twisting tracks, lined with loops, jumps and boost pads.
Pros: High-speed action, Good variety of tracks, Inventive racing concepts for tracks and Power-Ups
Cons: Harsh difficulty curve, Some bits of slow-down, 2 player view is hard for racing
Excerpt: Wipeout, Extreme-G and F-Zero, these futuristic sci-fi racers all have one thing in common, speed! Wipeout pits you into hovercrafts that have the ability to shoot power-up projectiles. F-Zero is that as well, aside from the weaponry. Up until now, Extreme-G has been the newest breed of futuristic racing, with its sound barrier shattering bikes and vehicular combat styling. It's obvious now isn't it?
Excerpt: Sony's new PS2 racer is definitely not your run-of-the-mill racing game. In Kinetica, the contestants are not sitting in a car, they're wearing it. The game is set in a future where underground street races have become insanely popular and new technology has developed specialized suits that utilize kinetic energy for racing.
