Jak II by Sony

Game Monkeys
5 March 2013
  • Summary: Despite the periodic cries that the platformer is dead, Jak II rises from the proverbial ashes to remind us not only that the genre is alive and well, but also of what it's capable of. Varied, smooth, and thoroughly entertaining this may be the new benchmark for all other games like it.
  • Pros: Lots of variety in a killer game.
  • Cons: A bit disjointed at times with boring runs from A to B.

  • Excerpt: A darker world requires a darker Jak and, more importantly, it gives Naughty Dog a good excuse to break out the big guns…literally. Head bopping and Daxter-slapping enemies may have cut it on Misty Island but sometimes you need to chew bubblegum and kick ass… and there isn’t any room for sickly...

  • Excerpt: set a landmark in game design. Allowing the gamer to explore one vast world that is seamlessly connected without a single loading screen was unheard of. The 'see it, go there' premise was skeptical sounding at first, but ultimately delivered.
