Conclusion: The problem comes in that the competition in this game still doesn’t hold up too well. It won’t take long for players to start holding their own in the game, and people very familiar with this style of racing will likely find the game getting too easy too fast, because the competition just won’t hold up in the long run. Conversely this really makes IndyCars a very accessible title for rookies to this style of racing.
Excerpt: All right, before I get too far into this review let me come out and say I just don’t get auto racing. I’m not saying it’s bad or stupid or a waste of time. Far from it. I’m just saying I don’t see the excitement, be it NASCAR or Formula One or IndyCar. I know a lot of people feel the same way about my favorite sport of football. So with that I mind I am going to try and keep an open mind as much as possible for Codemasters newest racing game IndyCar Series.
Excerpt: At first glance, Indy Car Series doesn't seem to be packing a lot in. Most of the racetracks in this game, though modeled after real life locations, are circular and monotonous. And as for the many cars speeding round them, all you'll find there is a different color scheme on the same model, unless you look really, really hard. What's there is nice, but there isn't a whole lot of it. Where Indy Car Series does shine is in the little things that it delivers.
Excerpt: Are you a fan of arcade-style racers? If so, you will probably want to steer clear of IndyCar Series--the latest from Codemasters. But for those of you who don't mind playing a simulation racer, this game, based on the IndyCar racing league from Codemasters, may just offer what you are looking for.
Excerpt: Gran Turismo 3 rocks. Why? Because although it was a simulation, it was also a lot of fun. It was one of the most rewarding, realistic and graphically impressive games around, accurately reproduced its subject material whilst keeping it playable. Indy Car Series isn’t better than GT3 , but it keeps the same principles of making a serious game enjoyable. The first thing you’ll notice is the license with all the cars, events, logos and tracks present.
Conclusion: Visually IndyCar Series is pleasing rather than eye-popping. The detailed cars all scale smoothly and crash damage looks realistic. Unfortunately the PS2 version looks a little jaggie with all the long bends and safety fencing, but the game still looks good. A smooth 2 player (with up to 8 AI cars) and unlockables including extra cars, paintjobs and collectors cards will keep you playing when long after the championship is won, but only if you're seriously dedicated -...
Pros: Loads of speed and authentic tuning options., 33 cars on track at once!, The Indy 500 is one of, great races.
Cons: Maybe too tough and demanding for its own good., Nothing but big grey oval circuits and left turns - and they just don't appeal like Spa, Monza and Monaco.
