Conclusion: That’s disappointing really, because the console and the genre could use something more based in fun than perfection. Unfortunately, SBK 07 just isn’t that game, because it’s just not a lot of fun.
Excerpt: Ice Age 2: The Meltdown gives you control of the littlest character in the movies, Scrat, as you follow Manny, Sid and Diego throughout the events of the second Ice Age movie. Graphics are broken up into two styles. There are the straight-from-the-film cut scenes with voice-overs by the films' actors giving a brief overview of a scene. and then there are the in-game graphics.
Excerpt: “Oh no, I thought. It’s a film tie-in. It’s a platform game and it features mini-games. Should I drill holes in it? Should I grind it into powder and offer it to the next strong breeze? Should I just stack it with all those free CDs I get with the newspaper and for some reason never throw away? In the end I gave it a chance and fortunately, it’s not that bad.
Excerpt: Ice Age 2: The Meltdown was supposed to be a kids game. It was supposed to be a platformer of the same crappy mold that most licensed products are, and worse yet, be geared towards a young audience. Somehow, the veteran developers at Eurocom overcame adversity and produced a game that's both fun and enjoyable for people of all ages, but especially for fans of the movie. It's short, it's simplistic, but it's also a good time, which is why I was pleasantly surprised.
Conclusion: At the end of the day this is the kind of game that actually gives industry cross-overs a good name. This is an extremely good use of a license and is frankly one of the better children's games that I have played in a long time. The charm of the film and its characters is all over the place here from start to finish thanks to the graphics and audio. Unfortunately the lack of innovation on the part of gameplay hurts the experience a bit.
Summary: Film and as always the game to follow, usually very disappointing and pointed towards the kids rather than the adults! We can say we have seen the film and it is quite good, not sure if it is as good as the first one but it is good and worth seeing, what about the game though?
