Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition Review

VideoGamer.com
10 March 2005
  • Excerpt: It would be tantamount to sacrilege if on this, the 15 anniversary of Street Fighter 2, Capcom did not reconvene the church of Street Fighter for another rousing service. We all know the hymns and have our favourite saints and sinner, but can Capcom make this the celebration of Street Fighter that the devout worshippers covet? Religious analogies aside, there's very little to say about Street Fighter 2 that hasn't already been said.

Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition

Console Obsession

  • Excerpt: 15 years is a long time, especially if you take gaming into consideration, how many games that are released today are going to last as long as the immortal Street Fighter series has managed to? Obviously only time will tell. The original Street Fighter may only exist as a blurred memory now; it was really with the release of Street Fighter II when the series actually hit its stride.

  • Excerpt: As they would say on the news on a wintry Saturday afternoon, if you don’t remember the magic that was Street Fighter II or one of its million different incarnations, look away now. This collection from Capcom is one for the purists only methinks, with the beat-‘em-up fans who fell in love with the genre over a hot joypad that controlled a Tekken or Soul Calibur game probably doubling up with laughter as we – the retroheads of this crazy gaming world – load up Hyper...

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Street Fighter II has seen a lot of action over the past decade or so, and for good reason: the game is the archetypal 2-D fighter. Without it, it's fair to say that the videogame industry would be very different today. Hyper Street Fighter 2: The Anniversary Collection is a good collection that'll draw back the cobwebs and let you take the classic for another spin. While the controls are a little mushy, the experience is still as engrossing as ever.

Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition

Gamecell

  • Conclusion: Regardless of these issues, its still an incredible videogame, and multiplayer sessions will last for years, just like they have done in the past with the 16-bit, Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and PSX releases. This game definitely wont pull any previous non Street Fighter fans into the series, but I imagine many seasoned gamers who remember it fresh from the Arcade and Super Nintendo will be well up for this PS2 compilation, and at £20 for a bit of gaming history, you can't...
  • Pros: It's Street Fighter II - you know what you're getting., Multiplayer will last for years., It's only £20., 60hz mode.
  • Cons: Bit of a missed opportunity perhaps?, Setting the controls up every time is a pain., Difficulty level seems broken., Non-Street Fighter II fans still wont like it.

  • Pros: Animations fluides, Gameplay, Street Fighter, diantre !
  • Cons: Manque d'originalité, Lissage parfois laborieux, Personnages de SF ?
