.hack//G.U. Vol. 3// Redemption

Playstation Illustrated
25 May 2008
  • Excerpt: Although the series has really never lived up to its potential, I've always generally liked .hack - or at least the underlying premise behind it. For whatever the reason, the idea of an MMORPG being a major threat to its player's real world lives interests me. .hack//G.U. Vol. 3// Redemption is the final game in the G.U. series. Similar to the second volume, the series makes a few minor changes but keeps everything generally the same.

.hack//G.U. Vol. 3: Redemption

Whatever our aim might be, the most compulsive games give us the misguided sense that we might accomplish the nearly impossible (or at least the senselessly difficult).
  • Pros: Well-defined concept, Compelling story, ...that we've seen before., ...that we've seen before., Mediocre gameplay, ...that we've seen before., Far too short for the genre, ...for what we've paid before.

  • Cons: Almost all the areas and environments are exactly the same as in the other G.U. games, The combat is as monotonous as ever, Dungeons are boring and repetitive, Requires playing the previous two games to get anything out of it

Along the way, Haseo has grown and evolved in more ways than simple character level and strength. Now, finally, .hack//G.U. Vol. 3//Redemption brings the last chapter of this storyline.
