GunGrave Overdose

Defunct Games
26 October 2004
  • Summary: At $15 this game is a steal, but it's also one of the most enjoyable arcade-style action games of the year. Buy it for the over the top violence, buy it for the story, buy it for the anime. Whatever your reason, Gungrave Overdose has a lot to offer for a very small price. Tweet This product was submitted by the publisher for review. As a rule, Defunct Games does not review games we spent money on. However, that does not always apply to classic/retro games.

23 October 2003
  • Excerpt: It is funny to see how Hollywood influences anime, anime shapes Hollywood and how they both impact videogames. For instance, take a hard look at The Matrix, which is essentially an anime moved into the live action arena. Then consider how videogame titles from every genre, from Madden to Dynasty Warriors, have used the so-called Matrix Effect. Gungrave’s mixture of Hollywood and anime may not be a first but few games have done it with more flair.

GunGrave

The Next Level
29 August 2000
  • Excerpt: GunGrave ’s hero, allegedly back from the grave, sports a dark blue overcoat and hat, concealing most of his human form. With him he carries but two weapons: the gun known as “Ceruberus” in his hand and an all-in-one death machine called “The Coffin” chained to his back. With these two metallic allies at the player’s side, he will traverse six levels of intense and pure action. GG makes no pretense about being an adventure game or a role-playing game.

Two guns, a grave and a pizza shop...

Web Wombat
15 January 2005
  • Conclusion: But in any case, it does get a little excessive, and sometimes repetitive - perhaps the title's only drawback. So, if you're looking for some variation in your gameplay diet, perhaps the action of Devil May Cry 2 would satisfy better, but if all out action is what you're looking for, then there's no better game than GunGrave.
