Regression - extremely disappointing

M. Kane "former college radio dj who thought he had an audience", Amazon
21 June 2008
  • Summary: When I saw that there were PS2 adaptations of Gradius III and IV, I was extremely excited, having seen friends play Gradius V in times past. This disc is NOT an adequate substitute for Gradius V. The games appear to run in an emulator at low resolution without any new graphics whatsoever.

Old-school gaming

Jason Montgomery "Journ", Amazon
6 February 2002
  • Summary: Being a fan of the Gradius series, especially G3 for the old Super NES, I rented this title to see what it was like, and I was a little dissapointed. The gameplay was exactly the same, but something was just missing.

Descent Game...Wrong System

Amazon
28 November 2001
  • Summary: Gradius is a O.K. game, but for the NES or SNES if you really want to strech it. But come on....the PS2? the PS2 has produced master pieces like Metal Gear Solid 2 and Final Fantasy X, gradius does not even compare to these games.

Once-superior games in a now-inferior package

"numskull", Amazon
26 May 2001
  • Summary: No offense to old-school shooters or their fans, but this is a pretty weak excuse for a PS2 launch title. Sony's "ultimate game machine" (or whatever tagline they're using) should be able to easily handle the first and second Gradius installments, along with these two, on a single disc.

Why is this on the Playstation 2?

Olaf the Bear, Amazon
11 February 2001
  • Summary: Is this game fun? Yes. It is fun. But it is not 2001 fun. It is 1995 fun. Does this game belong on this platform? No. This is an embarassment for Sony to touting these incredible hardware specs and then have a game like this released on this platform.
