Excerpt: Along with Table Tennis, horseracing isn’t one of the more obvious sports to base a computer game on. In fact the only people who watch horseracing are those having a punt and aren’t really interested in the actual sport – should you find it within yourself to call it such. The Japanese, however, love it.
Excerpt: If you were to make a sports game and had free reign to take your pick, it's unlikely that you'd pick horse racing. For most people horse racing is probably considered gambling, with little attention being given to the skill of the jockey or the thought behind breeding horses. To say G1 Jockey 4 is a niche title, then, is perhaps making the G1 Jockey series seem less obscure than it actually is.
Excerpt: Some things in life defy explanation, and the G1 Jockey series of games are a perfect example of this. Why am I still playing at 2am’ When will I get bored of racing over and over again’ It goes on. Regardless, if you have any interest in the sport at all, G1 Jockey is pretty much your only choice here in Europe. This is why we’re thankful to KOEI for continuing to localize the Japanese Winning Post series and for bringing it to our shores.
Conclusion: The trouble is, I don't see much of a need to purchase this over even the original G1 Jockey or G1 Jockey 3 (2 was not released in Europe). If you're intrigued by the idea of a horse racing game and you can pick this up at similar prices to either of the previous games, then this latest version is certainly the best choice. But frankly, if you've played the games before then buying G1 Jockey 4 is very much paying money for old rope.
Pros: Winning races is highly addictive, It's hard to see how they could come up with a better racing system
Cons: Graphics look old, Bewildering for newcomers because of a poor tutorial, Career mode story is a load of cobblers
