Excerpt: Please note that my review and rating does not take into account the multiplayer aspect of this game. Even though I don't follow this motorsport anymore, there are times when I like to immerse myself in a Formula One game.
Summary: I love formula one and when I saw this, I snatched it up and ran home. The game itself is quite incredible with the graphics oozing quality but then came the controls. Just awful. Like me, you will curse at the handling so much that you will end up buying the steering wheel/pedal kit.
Summary: I love F1, I watch it on Tv all the time whenever I can. F1 games have always been not good enough. The pc game Grand Prix 2 (by Microprose) is probably the best f1 game around. I thought that the ps2 would be better, but it just gets boring.
Summary: Overall a fun game. I wont be upset I bought it. Have been playing a couple days and notice some things I dont like. Sound: The sound cracks sometimes with some popping and hissing. Graphics: Not as smooth as I would expect for PS2 but good.
The best F1 game on the PS2 (but that's not saying much)
17 April 2003
Summary: Still not as good as Geoff Crammond's PC effort. The main faults with F1 2001 are as follows: much touted AI virtually non-existent, lack of race info (i.e. top 6, fastest lap, retirements), I have also raced an entire season (with the mechanical failure option on) and neither sufffered any...
Summary: No bad so far, but whats with the handling. Its so pully and jerky as you turn. One tap on the contoller has the head of your driving swaying to the left of right and if you continue to tap at it to get a good line, poor ol Montoya looks like he's having a wobbly fit!
Summary: What could have been (should have been) the ultimate Formula One game, ever, has been turned into a half-baked effort. The PS2 has the power to deliver a great game/sim but it has been let down in a few ways. My main query is with the AI of the other cars.(I don't think there is any).
Summary: Having already purchased F1 2000 by EA Sports and been very dissappointed with this title, I was expecting great things from Sony F1 2001, but have again have been let down, the game itself has plenty to offer i.e.
Summary: Hey F1 fans, There are some issues I have with Formula One 2001 and I would like to point out some serious problems I had with the game, problems that most of the reviews I've seen so far haven't mentioned at all. It can't just be my copy of the game!!
Summary: It's surprisingly realistic. It's very fast. And it can be tricky at first. I happen to like the accuracy of the steering - it's very responsive to the slightest input, much more than most driving games. It takes a few laps to get used to, but it I'm fine with it.
