Excerpt: Four years of waiting, several delays, and quite a few changes once hindered Final Fantasy XII from reaching North America, but now the game has been flung to the public to be picked apart and devoured. It has a difficult heritage to uphold, as it will be subjected to far more scrutiny than a non- Final Fantasy title. However, Final Fantasy XII seems to be the most carefully constructed title in the series to date, and it may be strong enough to withstand the pressure.
Summary: A masterpiece of the RPG genre. It's drawbacks are far overshadowed by it's volume of quality gameplay, story and value for money. Start saving up your Gil and spend it on adding this game to your collection.
Pros: Best story line since FF8., Fantastic graphics, voice acting and atmosphere., 100+ hours entertainment is a bargain by any standard.
Cons: Will consume weeks of your life., Arduous and copious amounts of walking., Espers are a real disappointment.
Excerpt: 2001 marked the year of release for the much anticipated tenth incarnation of the Final Fantasy series, for the Playstation 2. Boasting an engaging story, beautiful cinematics, and stellar voice acting, Final Fantasy X set a new high for role-playing games, even if it stuck very closely to the RPG rule-book.
Conclusion: Of course, there will be fans who still don’t like it even after actually giving it a chance, but they’re missing out on an amazing experience. Final Fantasy XII is refreshing, lengthy and complex – more importantly, though, it’s a huge amount of fun. It’s a fascinating take on the role-playing game, and a highlight in a series that has proven a highlight for the entire genre.
Excerpt: For almost two decades, Final Fantasy has existed as the paragon of console role-playing games, reaching millions of gamers internationally across four hardware generations. The series has garnered a much deserved place of love in many of our hearts, existing as an unshakable icon from adolescence to adulthood. With wide-eyed wonder we saw the creation of rich, vibrant worlds filled with compelling characters and their amazing journeys.
Summary: Parents need to know that this compelling adventure game is Teen-rated and features plenty of animated violence, but it's not overly realistic (magic spells, flying airships, and over-the-top creatures). The game also showcases the sci-fi heroines, large-breasted women wearing revealing clothing and bustiers.
Summary: I don't know why Square-Enix decided to go in the direction they did for this game, since normally they just tend to walk the same path all the time. However, I'm glad that just this once, the decided to make something quite different from the norms of the Final Fantasy series thus far, and I do hope that this game becomes the new standard for the games ahead of it. Because, all said and done, it is a fantastic game.
