  • Excerpt: In 2009, the FFXI team threw three mini-expansions at players. For $10 each, these three add-on scenarios focused on plot and were generally regarded as a letdown. Only the last of the three had a worthwhile plot; no surprise, since it featured the beloved Tarutaru NPC Shantotto. And while we wait with bated breath for an actual end to the Wings of the Goddess expansion (released in 2007), Square Enix decided to attempt another trio of add-ons.

Final Fantasy XI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan

Playstation Illustrated
3 March 2005
  • Excerpt: While most of the MMO playing worlds has become trapped in World of Warcraft , Final Fantasy XI has managed to pull and maintain a healthy following. The game, which is one of the only multi-platform MMOs on the market (both PC and Xbox 360 versions are available and interact with the PS2 players), has also seen a good dose of new content since its release.

Final Fantasy XI (with PS2 HDD)

Playstation Illustrated
3 March 2005
  • Excerpt: Finally, after almost 3 years of speculation and rumor, the PS2 Hard Drive (HDD) is finally out. This, of course, has led to one major question for most PS2 owners: To buy, or not to buy? I'll save you the time for having to read the entire review: If you have no interest in Final Fantasy XI , there is little reason to buy the hard drive at this time.

Final Fantasy XI

Into Liquid Sky
18 January 2005
  • Excerpt: Final Fantasy. It's a series that has become extremely popular ever since Final Fantasy VII came out on the Playstation (yes, it was big before, but not as mainstream big as it was afterwards). So, when Squaresoft (now Square Enix) decided to make its eleventh edition a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG), some of the standard fan-set were caught off guard.
  • Pros: Massive world with tons of things to do and lots of places to visit, Lots of customization when it comes to equipment, Combat and party aspects require strategy, Great artistic style
  • Cons: Too many menus to go through just to get into the game, Graphics could use more polish

  • Excerpt: Most RPG’s can be played for 40 to 60 hours and it is easy to know when to review it…when you finish it. However, MMORPGs are built to go on virtually forever, so when do you review them? I chose to play an entire month (the free one that comes with the title) before sitting down to my review. I won’t even begin to suggest I have even scratched the surface of the game but I think I have a firm enough grasp of how it plays to give my opinion.

The Laser
29 November 2004
  • Summary: Square-Enix and Sony have teamed up to bring the long-awaited Final Fantasy XI to the PS2, along with the much-vaunted Hard Disc Drive (HDD.) Players expecting a standard FF are in for a surprise, since the game more closely resembles EverQuest and other traditional PC online RPGS than the typical Square adventure. FFXI's gameplay is more open-ended than the typical Square release, but the real fun lies in meeting other players online and interacting with the community.

Final Fantasy XI

  • Excerpt: Many have criticised Final Fantasy XI for being nothing more than a money grabbing scheme, cooked up by the crooked cash-mongers at Square Enix. Let me be the first to tell you that all these accustions were made under false pretenses. This game is the shining polaris of all MMORPG games, and offers more tasks, more quests, and more side-missions than most regular RPG games.

  • Excerpt: Square-Enix has always strived to keep its flagship series Final Fantasy a notch above the rest. Whether it be graphics, music, or gameplay innovations, there's usually something newer or better in the latest Final Fantasy title. However, even with the tweaks and quirks added over the years, the series has retained a standard RPG format for nearly two decades.
