Excerpt: I am a man of few pleasures but I do enjoy kicking the crap out of a video game foe. I guess that is why I was looking forward to playing Eve of Extinction (EOE), a combination platform/action game whose box promises to blend the best of both genres. I was quite disappointed however, when I popped the game in and viewed the atrocity that is EOE. Eve of Extinction places the player in the role of Josh Calloway, a normal Joe working at the all-encompassing Wisdom Corp.
Excerpt: The question is "Who plays a brawler for the story?" Eve of Extinction 's base premise is about Josh Calloway, a former employee of the genetics corporation Wisdom. When he discovers Wisdom's evil intentions, he and his girlfriend, Eliel, try to escape but are captured. Her soul is merged with a Legacy weapon known as the E.O.E. Josh escapes, taking the Legacy weapon with him in hopes of finding a way to get her returned to normal.
Pros: Good variety of weapons and attacks, Large environments, Load times between levels are almost nonexistent
Cons: Camera is your worst enemy, Could use some kind of lock-on feature, Some collision detection problems
Conclusion: Well, there has to be some sort of law against bringing out game like EOE, but sadly, the game is on the shelves. It could still be a really good and appreciated game if it were played by someone who's missed out on the last five or six years of gaming. What it all boils down to is whether or not you need new cup coaster.
