PSX Extreme
15 April 2002
  • Excerpt: Every now and again, a sports series comes along and redefines the way we play our favorite pastimes, forever changing what our idea of a sports game can be. Sega's 2K series is one fine example, as well as the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise. These games revolutionized multimedia sports entertainment. Of course, not every series that comes along is able to recreate such magic, and ESPN's NBA 2Night series is a classic example.

ESPN NBA 2Night 2002

Operation Sports

  • Excerpt: It seems the buzz concerning basketball games is usually centered around two companies: EA and Sega. When you think of Konami, games such as Metal Gear, Castlevania, or Dance Dance Revolution may come to mind. So it’s no wonder that the association of sports and Konami may seem a bit of an afterthought. Oh sure, Konami did have the NBA In The Zone series that graced the PSX and N64, but in reality that series fell short of greatness and was scrapped.

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: Konami has never been known for great graphics when it comes to sports games, and ESPN NBA 2Night 2002 is no different. The player models themselves look OK at best, but the facial features leave something to be desired. Basically, they look very blocky and are not smoothed over. Another reason for the lackluster player models is the fact that they move almost robotic-like.

ESPN NBA 2Night 2002 Review

1 March 2002
  • Excerpt: When it comes to sports games, companies are always looking for something that will help their games stand out from the others available on the market. Since its brand of basketball games aren't nearly as recognized as those of Sega or Electronic Arts, Konami wisely chose to go with the well-known ESPN license to build a new foundation for its basketball games and attract fans of the ESPN broadcast style.

ESPN NBA 2 Night 2002

26 April 2002
