Summary: Ok, so we know the good, graphics, and presentation, now the bad. I am a hardcore basketball fan and can easily see how bad the realism is in this game. Dunks are blocked 70% of the time. Players instead of dribbling left usually just twitch and go right. I have encountered what i called the invisible wall, where when I pump fake and get my man off his feet, I can't go around him, I basically run in place.
Summary: The graphics on this game are outragous. They are picture perfect but the camera makes it very difficult to see the person. Even if you zoom in the most you can, you still barly can see the person.I think the game would be a lot more fun if it had a allstar Weekend like in NBA LIVE 2005.Even though the graphics are great in NBA LIVE 2005, but nothing like 2K5 it is a lot more fun then 2K5, besides isn't that what it is mostly about.I hope this helps you make a descision...
Summary: First improvement is the low post drop step. That allows you to drop step to one side or another to get to the basket and score. The dunks are almost the same as last year but I seen a reverse from the baseline and that was the best dunk I've seen so far in 2K5.The crossovers are stupid and worst than 2K4 when you do get around the defender you really can't tell. The pump fake is useless cause even when the defender jumps he can recover before you even get your shot up...
Summary: Positives: -ESPN game intros by Stuart Scott -24/7 mode keeps you coming back w/unlockable items and innovative game types (Bomb ball is a blast). -Movement of players is getting more realistic, as well as the appearance of players (ie their body shape is true to life). Also certain game elements are much improved.
Summary: Every year, I rent the latest installments in both the NBA Live and ESPN 2K series to help me decide which one to buy. Both are great games and the competition between them is hotter than every! Although ESPN 2K5 is a high quality game, NBA Live 2005 comes out ahead in the areas that really matter. First of all, 2K5 wins in the graphics department hands down. As a matter of fact, the overall presentation in 2K5 is outstanding!
Summary: I have been buying NBA games for about 10 years now, and I've seen it all. I've played must EA basketball games and all the Sega games over the years. 2k5 has improved on some things, while letting other things deteriorate to the point of being ridiculous. The graphics, for example are great throughout the game, but the animations are ridiculous.
Excerpt: This is a review I personally wrote and was published on a gaming website, and as the writer I wish this review to be published on Ciao UK. ---------------------- You surely can't argue whether ESPN NBA 2K5 is good or not. It IS good, and there's no discussion allowed. There is no basketball game that could be ever compared to this one, as this is the basketball game. The presentation, the graphics and the ESPN license.
Pros: The most realistic basketball game for PS2 .
Excerpt: Recently Sega have released a triplet of games, this one, ESPN Ice Hockey and ESPN American Football, I decided to buy this one, mainly because I can remember playing a demo of an ice hockey game from my youth and finding it impossible and also because I don't know the first thing about American Football apart from the ball is shaped like an egg!
Pros: Best basketball game on the ps2
Cons: gets a bit repetetive, easy level is too easy and medium and hard levels are impossible
