Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: ESPN International Winter Sports 2002 might not have the best graphics in the business, but if you're into Olympic-style games, you know you won't be gazing into the on-screen pixels anyway, because you'll be knee deep in gameplay. What is there is adequate though, so you won't be disappointed in the graphical display if you insist on having nice eye candy.

  • Excerpt: Well, spring is upon us and soon summer will be too. Still, it’s not too late to revel in a little bit of winter fun, so I decided to try out ESPN International Winter Sports 2002 (Winter Sports) by Konami. • Excerpt: Graphics : Winter Sports features a fairly good graphics engine that has its high and low points. The majority of the character models are well done and ski slopes, halfpipes and other venues are well designed and modeled. There are a fair amount of details, such as snow in the bobsled run and mini-trees on the downhill slopes, which help create a sense of realism throughout the game.

  • Excerpt: When games like Decathlon and Track and Field were released back in the '80s, they introduced the thumb-numbing gameplay mechanics that games like ESPN International Winter Sports 2002 are known for. As time went on and video games gradually stepped into 3D, future Olympics-influenced games contained the same button-mashing controls that made said games so popular, but failed to move the genre forward in this respect.

  • Excerpt: So the Olympics are over. But just as the season brings about Olympic spirit for the athlete many gamers feel the urge to get a taste with Olympic games. Quite honestly there hasn't been a decent Olympic game for years. We all remember the old Track n Field games for the NES, but in the last few years there hasn't been a worthy game.
