Enter the Matrix

Into Liquid Sky
7 February 2006
  • Excerpt: Rather than make a game based directly on the events of the original Matrix movie and the sequel Matrix Reloaded , the Wachoski brothers directed Shiny to make a game set to expand the universe while paralleling and even crossing over with events of the Matrix Reloaded . Players take on the role of either Niobe or Ghost, two fellow freedom fighters who enter the matrix to fight for their cause.
  • Pros: Great story that augments the movies, Tons of Matrix-style action and combat, Large locations, Live action footage is wonderful
  • Cons: Camera could be better in tight spaces, Some rough edges on the character models, Flight levels feel tacked on

Enter the Matrix

Just RPG

  • Excerpt: Upon first look at this game I became worried. After all, it was being sold as "an integral part of the entire Matrix experience". Call me skeptical, but I was getting concerned that this was just a marketing ploy to cash in on people’s obsession with the Matrix. The plot weaves in and out of Matrix Reloaded, however in my opinion it does a lot more weaving out than in.

  • Excerpt: A quick note: the Playstation 2 version of this game is even worse than the Gamecube version. Controls are harder to use, the loading takes longer, and the framerate is horrid.

  • Excerpt: Without a doubt, The Matrix Reloaded had been one of the most highly anticipated sequels to grace the silver screen in quite some time, and the box office receipts have certainly proven this. To go along with the release of this second Matrix film, Shiny Entertainment finally unleashed their Matrix video game project, which had been in development for what seemed like forever.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Enter the Matrix is just unfinished, plain and simple. It had the potential to be great. It has some awesome moments, but just falls short in too many areas to be anywhere near great. It's worth a rental and possibly a buy for Matrix fans - you should definitely give the game a try if you're interested.

Video Game talk
31 May 2003
  • Excerpt: "Enter The Matrix" is probably one of the most hyped video games of all time. Not only was it heavily covered in videogame industry magazines, but other mainstream publications also covered it, as coverage of the game often hooked on to coverage of the movie. The game really couldn't have lived up to the hype, but there's a certain level of expectations that it should have met that it doesn't always manage to.

  • Excerpt: Ever since GoldenEye on the N64, no game based on a movie has been able to be very good. Some games, like Spider-Man and some Star Wars games have been okay, but nothing that match the greatness of GoldenEye. Then comes Enter the Matrix, which had a lot of hype during pre-release. It was both written and directed by the makers of the Matrix trilogy. They made sure everything looked the best that it could to resemble the Matrix universe the best as possible.
