Drakengard PS2 Review

Console Obsession
31 May 2010
  • Excerpt: Square Enix are renowned for their strong narratives and at least on that count, Drakengard does in no way disappoint with its powerfully, imaginative storyline which sees main character Caim fatally wounded and discovering a similarly injured dragon. The two somewhat reluctantly agree to make a soul joining pact and in doing so save one another’s lives, unfortunately at the cost of Caim’s vocal capabilities however.

Drakengard

Game Over Online

  • Excerpt: Combining genres, especially Role-Playing Games, isn’t a new concept in gaming. There have been strategy/rpgs, driving/rpgs and even sports/rpgs. However, the most popular blend is the action/RPG, which appeals to just about every gamer. So it’s no real surprise that Square Enix, masters of the RPG, have decided to try their hand at this well-trod format with Drakengard, their latest title.

  • Summary: Drakengard does have it's faults thats for sure. As a first effort from the freshly merged Square Enix it's a disappointing release considering what each company has been capable of in the past. Taken for it's own merits though, Drakengard is a surprising first entry into what will hopefully one day become a major franchise. The ground work for a world beating sequel has been laid, we now await the right development team to capitalise on it...

Drakengard

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: What the heck? These are three little words you will say to yourself quite frequently while playing Square-Enix's latest title, Drakengard . While it has pretty simple gameplay and graphics, the story and themes of Drakengard seem to be it's biggest focus. It's not exactly a linear tale, but an amorphous glob of pain, revenge, and some of the most random freaky stuff you've ever seen. As I stated before, the graphics of Drakengard are pretty 'simple'.

  • Excerpt: What drives a man to become that which he despises? Can the conflagration of passionate revenge become the only absolute truth for those who have lost everything, including themselves? Does boundless love transcend even that of the deepest madness? For Caim, the unwilling hero of Square Enix’s Drakengard, each of these burning questions comes to a point in an almost transfixing journey into the brink of chaos.

  • Excerpt: Drakengard is divided into two main parts: aerial mission and ground-based missions. However, the real highlight is the melding of the two: Swooping down from the sky and strafing a mass of troops with flaming dragon breath. Between mass battles, strafing mostly unsuspecting troops, and the in-flight missions, you have the traditional boss battles. When I say traditional, I mean it too.
