  • Conclusion: If you're looking for a mash-up between Mario Party and a role-playing game then you can do worse than Dokapon Kingdom. Actually, on second thought, you can't. As far as I can tell this is the first game that tries to pair these two different genres. The good news is that you can have a lot of fun in Dokapon Kingdom, unfortunately the game never quite lives up to its potential and is only fun when you're playing with real people!

  • Summary: Atlus U.S.A.'s Dokapon Kingdom is an addictive multiplayer RPG where the King of Dokapon has offered you his throne; all he asks for in return is that you dispose of an invading horde of thieving monsters. Trouble is - you’re not the only one he asked.

  • Conclusion: Dokapon Kingdom isn't for everyone, that much should be pretty obvious. Those that take the time to enjoy the game for what it is -- a mash-up of RPG and board game elements -- will find plenty to dig into, however. Definitely give this a rental.

  • Excerpt: RPGs are nice and all, but they are not the only activity I like. Another activity I enjoy is board gaming, which I’ve increasingly been getting active at, going to hobby shops to play with other people. What happens when you mix two interests of mine? You get Dokapon Kingdom, an RPG/board game hybrid created by Sting. Making hybrids of different genres tend to be hit or miss, but Dokapon Kingdom managed to make this hybrid succeed.

  • Conclusion: The game even has some creative ways to beat the competition. For example, a player can decide to rob a store, but wear a costume so that everyone at the shop thinks someone else did it, and then that character scores a place on a “Wanted List” for breaking the law. As a kicker, that poor sap has a bounty for his/her head.

Dokapon Kingdom

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: Dokapon Kingdom is the very definition of a game that isn't for everyone. If the whimsical cover or overly Japanese style of... well, everything doesn't look like it will grab your attention, it is probably best to go with your gut. However, if these things do sound appealing, or you're looking for a fun game to play with your family, you might like what Dokapon Kingdom has to offer.
